Library service for distance students at SLU
Distance students at SLU are offered several
options as regards library services. You may contact any
SLU Library directly, your nearest public library or the library at
your workplace.
Borrowing
We recommend that, as a first alternative,
you get in touch with your local public library or your workplace library,
since in that case you need not pay postage costs when returning the material.
If there is no library service in your home community, you are welcome
to become a borrower with us.
Books from the SLU Libraries may in general
be borrowed for 30 days. Journals are
not lent out. Exceptions from this are year books and special issues. Special loan times
apply to course literature.
If the book/journal you want is on loan,
it can be reserved for you. If you are searching for literature that is
not available in the SLU Libraries, in most cases we can order it from
another library. Loans from Swedish and Scandinavian libraries are free
of charge. If you want to order an extract from a journal, it is usually
delivered as a copy. Note that there is a charge for making copies of
articles.
See Price list
You can place your order via LUKAS, via the online order form, via E-mail or by filling
in a loan slip.
Library card
In order to borrow books you must have a
library card. Get in touch with one of the SLU
Libraries via a visit, phone call or E-mail and you will receive a
library card valid in all the SLU Libraries in Sweden. We need to know
your name, address and National Insurance number. Please see also the
lending rules of the SLU Libraries.
Searching information
Via the SLU
Libraries website you can access entry links to the library catalogues
and databases. You will find the SLU Libraries' common catalogue and search
system LUKAS, and a number of other sources of information, such as
Databases and
e-ref.
Access to license-based electronic resources
As a distance student at SLU you have the
right to access our licence-based resources, subject databases and electronic
journals in full text. You can reach us via SLU's
proxy server.
Courses
We are pleased to arrange courses
for distance students based on your specific needs and wishes, for example
library presentations, information on electronic journals, instruction
in literature searches. Speak to your teacher, and together we can plan
group instruction based on your requirements.
Contact us to arrange a time and a place.
You may find tips about how to select information sources, formulate search queries etc in "Search
Collect Publish", a manual to search, critically evaluate and use information. The different substages follow the work process
for preparing a newspaper article, report or a diploma paper. You yourself
decide in which order you wish to study the content.
